This project is a partnership between Robert Wood Johnson Rahway Hospital, and Fitness and Wellness Professional Services. Jarmel Kizel provided all architectural, interior design and engineering services associated with the project, including exterior modifications and all land entitlements in support of a use variance for RWJ Fitness and Wellness. The project comprised of the adaptive reuse of a 51,570 square foot, vintage 1950’s industrial building that needed major renovations into a state-of-the-art hospital-based fitness and wellness center. Originally constructed for industrial purposes, 2120 Lamberts Mill Road was utilized as a cake mixing factory and most recently as a machine shop for the fabrication of fire extinguishers. The new facility for RWJ Rahway was designed to include a fitness area, workout studios, yoga studios, an aquatic area with a lap pool, therapy pool and whirlpool, locker rooms, rehabilitation and physical therapy space that is occupied and managed by the hospital, a community health education center that is operated by the hospital, office, conference and meeting rooms and other tenant space. Also included is a first class spa and healthy cafe.
